Brett Malak Lighting Design, Inc. (BMLD) is an award-winning, certified woman owned firm established in 2009 that has designed and consulted on a wide variety of projects, both domestic and international. BMLD brings to the table skills from a variety of disciplines including architecture, illumination engineering, interior design, theatrical design, manufacturing, and fine art. Our knowledge of the latest technological advances in lighting and control equipment, energy conservation strategies, codes, available energy rebate programs, computer imaging techniques, graphic representation, and calculation methods results in a successful addition to any project. We guide clients through every phase of the project from concept design to construction administration. Many of our clients are regulars – we have a great network of repeat customers because we offer individual attention, dedicated service, and top-notch designs that satisfy all requirements from aesthetics to energy codes to budget.

Brett Malak has been a prominent, award winning lighting designer for over 20 years, with design experience and expertise in architectural lighting layouts, LEED compliant, energy efficient design, centralized dimming system design, custom fixture design, and lighting equipment procurement for numerous corporate, hospitality, retail, cultural, educational, and residential projects.
In addition to designing architectural lighting, Ms. Malak has also served on code committees and has often participated as a guest lecturer on the subject of lighting design, technology, and energy conservation at various architecture firms and universities. She also appeared on an episode of HGTV’s program Home Rules to explain energy efficient lighting techniques for home owners.
Ms. Malak earned a bachelor of Architecture degree from New Jersey Institute of Technology and is a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES), and WILD (Women In Lighting Design). BMLD is proud of its certification as a nationally recognized woman owned business.
When not designing lighting projects, Brett is usually digging holes and planting in her yard in an effort to create a magical secret garden.
